About Water Brings Life

Water Brings Life is a group of people who desire to connect the Church with those who need their help. Specifically, we want to bring together the churches who have any money, time or manpower to the organizations that exist world-wide to bring clean drinking water and sanitation to those people who currently live without them. Actually, people don’t live without them, they die without them. Check out the Statistics about the world water crisis here.

Every day, 6000 people die from water related illnesses. That means a child dies every 15 seconds due to lack of access to clean water. Every minute. Every day. With no holidays.

Where is the Church in that?

Americans spent about $34 billion on religious books in 2006. $11.4 billion would have provided clean drinking water and sanitation capabilities to every person on the planet.

How many books did you buy last year?

In the past ten years, diarrhea has killed more children worldwide than all the people lost to armed conflict since World War II (Water Aid). Over 80% of the disease in developing countries is directly due to lack of clean water and sanitation.

Isn’t Jesus Living Water?

If we’re the Church of God, if we are Christ on earth with hands and feet, if Jesus is really Living Water, then why are people dying every minute of every day of every month of every year because they don’t have clean water?! Living water means water that is full of vitality, bringing life, not dead but moving. How can the Church be concerned about praying and bringing Jesus to those who don’t know Him, if we are not bringing them Living Water?

What use is it, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” and yet you do not give them what is necessary for {their} body, what use is that? Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead, {being} by itself. James 2:14-17 NASB

This is why Water Brings Life exists. Our goal is not to collect money. Please, I do well to be able to balance my checkbook every month. Our goal is not to figure out how to get water to those who lack it. There are already many, many organizations who are doing just that. Our goal is to become a link between people of faith and those organizations who need our help to accomplish God’s work in this world. If you want to get involved with the miracle of bringing Living Water to those who need it, you can help, and we can show you how. Whether you’re an individual, a group of friends or family, or a church, or an entire denomination, we exist to help you get your time, energy and resources focused with a group that mirrors your goals, theological beliefs and needs. Please, visit the sites under In The Field on this site. They are in the trenches building wells, capturing rainwater, developing technologies to help get the water to where people need it. If you need help finding an organization to partner with, contact me at alicia.hemphill@gmail.com. I will be glad to sit down and talk with you and help you make some choices regarding where to begin. If you want me to address a larger group, or your entire congregation, I can do that, too.

The point is, God has gifted His Church with every resource, personality type and gift the world will ever need. We need those with money to share it so our neighbors in need won’t starve. We need those with strong muscles to help the communities dig their wells, maintain them and learn to use them efficiently. We need those with political ties and societal justice connections to get involved with the governments which restrict their citizens’ access to the natural resources needed for life.

Whatever your gifts, whatever your passions, whatever your talents…God can and will use them to do a miracle.

Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. John 14:12

Because Jesus has gone to the Father, we will do even greater works than His. I think bringing clean water and access to sanitation to every person on the planet qualifies. Don’t you?
